Our Church

First Baptist Church was formally established on January 5, 1957 as a Southern Baptist Church and a member of the Metro-East Baptist Association. We are full of loving and caring people devoted to Jesus Christ,  His Great Commission and His Great Commandment. We are here to serve God by serving each other and our neighbors. We welcome all visitors with open arms and cherish the opportunity to get to know each and every one.

 

Our Purpose

The purpose of this church is to maintain the public worship of God; to practice the precepts and examples of our Lord Jesus Christ as set forth in the New Testament;  to sustain ordinances and doctrines and to preach and to propagate among all people the gospel of God’s salvation by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

 

Our Beliefs

Our Doctrinal Beliefs are guided by the Baptist Faith and Message of the Southern Baptist Convention

We Believe - The Holy Bible, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God and is the record of God's revelation of Himself to man. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error, for its matter. It is the supreme standard and final authority for all human conduct.

We Believe - There is one and only one living and true God. He is Creator and Sustainer of all things, infinitely holy and perfect and eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

We Believe - That Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. In His incarnation He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. Jesus took upon Himself the demands and necessities of  human nature and yet perfectly revealed and followed the will of God, without sin. He died on the cross, a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Father, He is now our High Priest and Mediator. No one comes to the Father except through Jesus Christ.

We Believe - That the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. He inspired holy men to write the Scriptures. He exalts Christ, reveals truth, convicts of sin, calls man to the Savior and effects regeneration. He indwells, guides, instructs and empowers the believer for godly living and service.

We Believe - That man was created in the image of God but by free choice fell into sin and is, therefore, separated from God (lost). That only by the Grace of God through Faith in Jesus Christ can man re-enter into His holy fellowship and fulfill the creative purpose of God.

We Believe - That the shed blood of Jesus Christ on Calvary's cross and His Resurrection provide the one and only means of salvation. That salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who repent of their sin and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  For all who believe, such are born of the Holy Spirit and, thus become children of God.

We Believe - That water baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordinances to be observed by the Church out of obedience to the Lord.

We Believe - In the personal and imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ and that in His own time and in His own way, God will bring this world to its appropriate end.

We Believe - In the bodily resurrection of the dead; of the believer to everlasting life with the Lord in Heaven; of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting punishment in Hell.
